NOTICE! Recently a spammer or group of spammers has stolen one of The ECHO Group email addresses and used it to send SPAM. We have received several hundred messages every day listing non-existent or faulty email addresses all over the world of which we have no knowledge. In an effort to eliminate this theft, we have begun changing passwords and have alerted the host for the ECHOgroup websites. When Debt Has You Down

Bankruptcy is often presented as the best solution to a perplexing debt problem. But is it really? Bankruptcies are increasing at an alarming rate. Legislators, responding to the difficulties of both borrower and creditor, are re-examining the ramifications of our current laws. Expect some important and needed changes in bankruptcy law very soon. Debt ridden families are often led to believe that it is a relatively harmless procedure that will eventually go away, not realizing that it leaves behind a legal record that will continue to haunt them long after it drops from their credit report.

Is There Good Debt & Bad Debt?

“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” —Proverbs 22:7

Many so called financial advisors suggest that there is “good debt” and “bad debt.” The implication usually is that debt secured by an appreciating asset (such as real estate) is good. Some go as far as to suggest that you need not consider it as debt. Nothing could be farther from the truth. If “the borrower is slave to the lender,” then debt is slavery. I wonder how many would cede that there is such a thing as “good slavery” and “bad slavery?” Certainly, some slavery is less onerous than other slavery. Better to be a slave in Eastern Europe than in Saudi Arabia, I suppose, but it is still slavery. As long as you have debt, you are still enslaved.
